MAKJ

MAKJ (born Mackenzie Johnson in 1990, San Luis Obispo, CA) began his career as a teenager, once racing cars in China before returning to the U.S. and teaching himself to DJ using used turntables. He honed his skills with mentorship from DJ AM and immersion in the Southern California scene.

His breakout came through collaborations with top artists like Hardwell (“Countdown”), Lil Jon, Bassjackers, Andrew W.K. & Timmy Trumpet (“Party Till We Die”), Steve Aoki & Deorro (“Shakalaka”), and others. These tracks frequently charted on Beatport and earned festival exposure.

MAKJ has performed at major global festivals including Coachella, Ultra, Electric Zoo, and TomorrowWorld. He was recognized as a “Top Artist to Watch” by Billboard at Ultra Miami 2014 and ranked in DJ Mag’s Top 100 in 2014 and 2015. He also hosts a radio show on Clear Channel’s Evolution, showcasing his versatility across EDM, hip‑hop, Latin, and open-format sets.
